What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps you heal from the symptoms and distress resulting from disturbing life experiences.

Just like how your physical body can recover from wounds, your brain can naturally recover from most distressing memories. However, you may have some memories that need help to process. These memories come with disturbing images, thoughts, and emotions that can leave you feeling overwhelmed and stuck in those memories. EMDR helps your brain process these memories so that normal healing can resume.

How It Works

First, we will map out painful events in your life that you would like to heal from.

Then, we will practice emotion regulation skills to prepare for processing.

During processing, you will briefly focus on the painful memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements).

We will debrief, monitor your symptoms, and continue processing together until there is a reduction in the vividness and distress associated with your painful memories.

With EMDR, you can…

No longer feel trapped in the past

Feel safe within your own body and mind

Develop compassion for yourself and others

It’s time to release your past and restore your present.
